On May 6, 2025, the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi organized a soulful musical evening to commemorate the death anniversary of the legendary Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi, showcasing his poignant songs and ghazals.
In this special program, Chandigarh’s renowned singer Jaspreet Jassal paid a heartfelt tribute by lending her melodious voice to Batalvi’s emotionally rich compositions. The event began with the deeply touching song "Ae Mere Geet, Kisi Ne Nahin Gaaney...", followed by powerful renditions of "Aankh Kaashni Aaj Din Chadheya," "Main Ki Main Mere Geet Vich," "De Gaya Meri Ek Kalam Na Ho Haadsa," "Mainu Tera Shabaab Le Baitha," "Gham Di Raat," "Loki Poojan Rab," and "Ki Puchhde Ho Haal Fakeera Da."
The event drew a large audience from Chandigarh, Mohali, and surrounding areas—many of whom have cherished Shiv Kumar Batalvi's poetry throughout their lives and hold a deep emotional connection with his work.
Alongside Jaspreet Jassal, Arvinder Kaur, Dr. Arun Kant, and Kailash Atwal also graced the stage with their moving performances of Batalvi’s songs, adding further depth and emotion to the evening.
Mr. Naveen, SDM Central, was present as the Chief Guest. The evening was also graced by several eminent personalities of the city, including Mr. Girvar Sharma, Sadhna Sanghar, Mrs. Vijay Kapoor, senior artist Rahul Mahajan, Mr. Gurmeet Joda, Mr. Avtar Sahni, Prof. N.S.D., Mr. Sunil Kumar (President, Seva Bharati), Abhishek Sharma (Director, Tagore Theatre), Mr. Sudesh Sharma (Chairman Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi), Vice Chairman Vikrant Seth, and Secretary Mr. Rajesh Atreya.
